I ponder how to create a vast and profound landscape by using a flat painting technique to depict mountainous regions and magnificent rocks. The approach to mountain scenery in Eastern art is fundamentally different from that in Western art. In Eastern painting, particularly in landscape art, the emphasis is on capturing the spirit and essence rather than mere realism. I have a special connection to certain rocks; their peculiar shapes and unique textures constantly inspire me.
The focus of the painting is not on the strange rocks themselves but on the "journey." The extensive blank space offers a broad world for the viewer's mind to wander, guiding the visual movement. The vertical axis format subtly borrows from the "high distance" composition of traditional Chinese landscape painting, creating a profound and expansive sense of space.
Therefore, I frequently portray this series in my works, imagining myself wandering through the wilderness and becoming one with nature's wonders. This creative process is not only about depicting natural landscapes but also about projecting my inner emotions. Through these magnificent rocks and mountains, I hope to convey a sense of tranquility and eternity.
To me, small stones and mountains signify that even though we may one day leave this world, they will continue to exist, symbolizing eternity. I have never considered myself or my art to be extraordinary, but these simple elements of nature provide me with endless inspiration and profound emotion.
